Archival Services

For over 100 years, the Société historique de Saint-Boniface (SHSB) has been interested in the social, cultural, political, economic, legal and religious evolution of the French-speaking population of Manitoba. It acquires textual and iconographic documents, maps, photographs, books, newspapers, recordings and films which constitute the archives.

The archives document all aspects of the past and present life of the francophone and Métis communities of Western Canada and Manitoba in particular.

Genealogical Services

The Centre du patrimoine (Heritage Centre), supported by volunteers, provides a genealogy service. Resources are available on Métis and Francophone families in Western Canada.

The Centre du patrimoine provides and promotes the publication of genealogical material, offers workshops in research techniques and responds to inquiries. Several databases provide access to Manitoba, Saskatchewan and U.S. church records, Métis scrip, Voyageur contracts, selected census records, archives and publications.

Library Services

In addition to a reference library and rare book collection of over 13,000 titles, the Centre du patrimoine has also acquired several periodicals and newspapers, including Le Manitoba, Le Métis and La Liberté.
