Genealogical Research In Person

Access to a Wealth of Resources

If you wish to do your own genealogical research, the Centre du patrimoine has a wealth of ressources available in its archival collections and reference library.

Make an appointment

If you wish to consult archival documents or publications from our collection of rare books, we recommend that you contact the archivist in advance and make an appointment. The archivist will be able to retrieve the documents you are interested in before you arrive.

If you would also like a short session to orient yourself with our resources and help you get started with your research, please let us know in advance.

Research room and resources

The Centre du patrimoine has a dedicated research room (Lionel-Dorge Room) to accommodate your needs. This spacious, well-lit area with big tables offers a comfortable setting in which researchers can do their work.

The Centre also offers a free WiFi connection (just ask for the password) and there are electrical outlets for your laptop computer at every table. It is equipped with a microfiche reader, microfilm readers, a microfilm digitizer, a scanner, and public computers with access to our online subscriptions and databases. Internal databases can be consulted by staff to assist you in your research.

Access fee

Access to resources in the reference library is free for all but there is a $5 per day research fee for consulting the archives.

This fee is waived for all Société historique de Saint-Boniface members.

If you expect to visit us often, please consider becoming a member!

You can also do your own research online!
