The Belgians in Western Canada – The Cornelius Jaenen fonds has been processed

Thanks to a Province of Manitoba Sport, Culture and Heritage grant, the documents and photographs comprising the Cornelius Jaenen fonds have been processed. The audio recordings (cassettes and reel to reel tapes) that had been digitized in October 2019 during a project financed by Library and Archives Canada are also available for consultation online.

This archival fonds contains research documents accumulated by Cornelius Jaenen about Belgians in Western Canada. The research material was used to write his book “Promoters, Planters and Pioneers: The Course and Context of Belgian Settlement in Western Canada”, published by the University of Calgary Press in 2011. The book will be available in our reference library very soon.
