Une lettre à Frederick Middleton

Major General,
In answer to the note which I have the honor

Your prompt answer to my note shows that I was right in mentioning to you the cause of humanity. The Providence of God knows that our intentions and our motives are honest. You fight not against warriors as we are. We are not ennemies of the government. You fight against petitioners. For our crime is to have petitioned the government and to have been refused the objet of our petition. And as the Providence of God takes care of every thing, she has allowed us to meet on the Field
