Dr. Timothy Foran has been awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal for best thesis in the Humanities. He received his PhD in History from the University of Ottawa. The title of his thesis is : 'Les Gens de cette Place' Oblates and the Evolving Concept of Metis at Île-à-la-Crosse, 1845-1898. His thesis director was Dr. Nicole St-Onge. Timothy Foran used the archives of the Société historique de Saint-Boniface in the course of doing his research. Part of these archives included those deposited by the Archdiocese of Keewatin - Le Pas, which was made possible thanks to the Manitoba Metis Federation and the Métis National Council.
