Centre du patrimoine Endowment Fund

The Fonds Centre du patrimoine, originally the Institutional Endowment Fund of the Société historique de Saint-Boniface, was established in 1995 to ensure the acquisition, preservation and promotion of Western Canada’s French and Métis heritage at the Centre du patrimoine. The fund is held by Francofonds.

Fund objectives

  • Ensure access to the archives, their preservation and management.
  • Process numerous important archival collections.
  • Support projects in the fields of genealogy, research, publishing, Web casting and training, as well as capital projects.
  • Expand the Centre du patrimoine’s public outreach.

Religious Archives Sub Fund

In 2017 five religious congregations cofounded the Religious Archives Sub Fund whose objective is the preservation, management and promotion in perpetuity of the religious archives deposited or given to the Centre du patrimoine. Thanks to: Missionary Oblate Sisters of St. Boniface, Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint Hyacinthe, Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and the Sisters of the Saviour.

The investment made in the religious archives initiative will reach $650,000 in December 2020. This amount includes donations, matching funds from Francofonds to the Sub Fund and also immediate investments in human and material resources which allowed the Center to launch projects in the fall of 2017.

Manitoba Heritage Trust Program: Matching Funds Increase the Impact of Your Donation!

In December 2017, the Province announced the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program, a $5M donation matching program in support of small and medium-sized museums and archives centres in Manitoba. Thanks to this program, the impact of your gift is increased by adding up to one dollar ($1) for every two dollars ($2) you donate to the new Société historique de Saint-Boniface Endowment Fund, held by Francofonds, but administered by The Winnipeg Foundation from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2021. Through this matching program, the Société historique de Saint-Boniface has access to a minimum of $25,000, and up to a maximum of $85,000, in matching funds during this three-year period. To that end, the Society has signed a three-party agreement with The Winnipeg Foundation, which the province has entrusted with the management of the matching program, and Francofonds

Please note that when donations to the Société historique de Saint-Boniface Endowment Fund are made directly to The Winnipeg Foundation, it will emit the official donations receipts. At the end of the matching program in 2021, the fund will be collapsed and the donations, matching dollars and revenues generated by the fund will be transferred to the Centre du patrimoine Endowment Fund or its Religious Archives Sub Fund at Francofonds.

Please help us maximize the matching dollars in support of the Centre du patrimoine by donating to the Société historique de Saint-Boniface Endowment Fund from April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2021.

Your Donation at Work

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, to their donation pledges and to Francofonds’s significant donation matching programs through the years, our total endowed funds will definitely reach $1M by the end of March 2021. As of March 31, 2018, they had reached $762,031.

The increased revenue generated by its endowed funds provides the Société historique de Saint-Boniface with the resources it requires to support the Centre du patrimoine’s growth. We continue to acquire treasures that need to be properly archived to make them fully accessible to researchers. Further, access to our archives is constantly improved and expanded, mostly through the digitalization of documents.

Why give?

As you may very well guess, researchers are attracted by these new acquisitions and the enhanced access to the treasures housed at the Centre du patrimoine. As it was, the annual number of requests for support rose by close to 27% at the Centre du patrimoine, from April 2017 to March 2018.

La Société historique de Saint-Boniface appeals to our governments and is constantly searching for varied sources of funding to sustain its activities. However, we still count on the helping hand of the community we serve to ensure our ongoing development. A total of $2M in endowed funds would generate $80,000 annually at a 4% return, enough to hire a full-time person as well as part-time help, and to assist with the costs of new projects such as exhibitions.

The brochure Make Your History Come Alive: Donate! outlines a number of other reasons to invest in the Fonds Centre du patrimoine. Also, the testimonials (in French) of former Senator Maria Chaput, Mr. Louis Bernardin and Mr. Rémi Gosselin speak to the importance of the Centre du patrimoine.

Let yourselves be convinced at this time!
